| Dog Attack in San Francisco |
| Posted By Law Office of Nelson C. Barry III |

Recently three people in San Francisco were attacked by dogs - a Pitbull and a mix Shepherd breed, in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. The dogs tore apart the clothes of one of the three victims and injured the other two. The dogs were in the park without any owner(s) nearby. The attack was quite fierce; police took both dogs in custody. No one came forward to claim the dogs. In fact, the dogs were considered such a threat to other people's safety that they were euthanized.
It is not uncommon for a dog attack to happen anywhere. If you or someone you know has been attacked by a dog, immediately seek medical attention and get proper treatment for your wounds. Next protect your rights by consulting a personal injury attorney who specializes in dog attack cases. Even if you were not seriously injured, consider taking action against the dog's owner for two reasons; first, the owner needs to be aware of their dog's vicious or aggressive nature. Second, by acting now, you could be saving someone else, most likely a child, from serious injury or even death because it is most common for the aggressiveness in dogs to escalate (not diminish) as time goes on.
Also remember that when you are attacked by a dog, you need to collect as much proof as you can reasonable get. So get the identification of the dog's owner, the dog's name and the type of breed. Get names of witnesses. Take pictures of your injuries, of the dog(s) and of the area where it happened. Keep copies of bills and receipts for your medical care and for prescriptions.
Call San Francisco Personal injury lawyer Nelson C. Barry III who is a specialist in dog attack cases. Let him put his 31 years of experience to work for you to help you get the compensation you deserve for the pains and wounds you have suffered as well as the losses you have to borne such as medical expenses and lost income.
Nelson Barry has a 100% win record in dog attack cases. All of his clients who were attacked by dogs received the full compensation. For his reviews see the client testimonials page.
Make sure the dog bite attorney you select is experienced enough to get you the justice you deserve. It is the dog owner's responsibility to keep their dogs under control and if they do not, then it is their legal obligation to pay compensation to those that are the victims of their dog's viciousness. Not surprisingly, virtually all dog experts agree that the dog's aggressiveness is the fault of the owner, not the dog, because of how the dog was raised or treated. So it is only fair that the owner be held accountable. |

Last week, a 911 operator received a most chilling call; it was a dog attack call. A 5 year old girl was brutally attacked by a vicious dog. The little girl was playing in a yard when a neighbor's pit bull attacked her. He chomped down on her face and literally tossed her around like a play toy. Half her face was instantly and permanently destroyed and the yard was soon got covered in her blood. After hearing her screams for help the neighbor immediately called 911. Before help arrived, the entire right side of the girl's face was completely bitten off.
The girl was rushed to the hospital where doctors operated on her face four times in an attempt to reconstruct it as best as they could. However due to her tender age, the doctors have to wait for her to grow up a little more before they can perform several more surgeries to make additional improvements. The emotional and psychological scars will take much longer to overcome, if ever. Her family is trying to make everything as normal as possible for her. It has been reported that she can talk and sing normally and she is handling the situation bravely.

| Dog Bite Accidents |

In United States, the number of dog bite injuries is on the rise and so is the cost of treating those injuries. In fact many unfortunate and brutal dog attacks have occurred in the past few years resulting in serious injuries and at times deaths. Of all the dog bite victims, easily half are children!
Dog bite injuries can be physical and emotional. They can sometimes be so severe that they cause permanent deformity and even death. For instance, deep cuts, fractures and ruptures on the body especially the face that require years of reconstructive surgeries like grafting, scar reduction treatments and physical and psychological therapy. Very often there is not a full recovery from this kind of injury.
Another type of injury resulting from a dangerous attack by a dog is emotional injury. The attack can put an individual, especially a child, in state of constant paranoia and stress which will require years (or even a lifetime) of professional help.
In most of the dog bite incidents, the victim pays for all the expenses out of his pocket which should be taken care of by the owner of the dog. If injured, seek advice and professional help from an experienced Dog Bite Attorney who is an expert in the area of dog attacks. | Avoid Aggressive Dog Behaviors |
| Posted By Law Office of Nelson C. Barry III |

Dog attacks are one of the most common causes of personal injuries. Children under the age of 11 years are often the victims of dog attacks because they are small can be easily controlled by the dog. There are many different signs that can be used to predict a possible dog attack such as listed below. Knowing them can possibly avoid dangerous situations -
- When a dog misjudges human gestures, for instance, if a person is about to pat the dog on the top of the head, the dog might take the hand movement as an attack and bite in self defense.
- When a dog is disturbed while resting/ sleeping and eating.
- When children especially those who are 11 years and younger want to play with pet against its wish, then the dog might attack.
- When a dog is provoked by another animal or an individual that he cannot attack; the dog might redirect his aggression to some other person.
Some important things that can be done in order to avoid a dog attack are -
- Do not approach an unfamiliar dog, particularly those who are tied, barking constantly, lose behind the gate or confined within the car. Those dogs might be territorial and/or overly stressed and more prone to attack.
- Since dogs can become possessive with their food and toys, therefore, do not bother a dog while it is playing with its toy, eating and/or sleeping.
- Educate your children about how to treat a dog. Treating a dog unfairly or harshly can result in a dog attack.
If you think the dog can attack you any moment -
- Do not start shouting. Stand motionless and do not look in the animal's eye, look somewhere else and stay calm until he goes away from you.
- Try to resist the attack by "feeding" him things like your bag, shoes and jacket.
In case you are attacked by a dog, immediately cleanse your wound and get proper medical attention. Report the attack to the local animal control center so there will be a record of the dog's aggressiveness. It is very common for aggressive dogs to attack multiple times and if these attacks are reported to animal control, official action will be taken, hopefully before someone is seriously injured. Dog owners are 100% liable for medical bills, income loss, personal injury and pain and suffering damages.

| Number of Dog Bites in the US Increasing! |
| Posted By Law Office of Nelson C. Barry III |
 |
Animal attack especially dog bites are quite common in
United States
. Each year more than 800,000 people seek medical attention for injuries received from these kinds of attacks. According to Center for Disease Prevention, more than 4.9 million dog bites happen each year. Most people do not appreciate how dangerous dogs are until they become a victim. Injuries from the dog attacks can be very severe and cause serious damage to muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves and bones and can lead to serious complications such as infections, scaring and post traumatic stress disorders.
The risk of being attacked by a dog is much greater when they are in a pack (such as two or more dogs in a home or yard) or when a dog is disturbed while resting or when a dog feels the need to protect itself. Growling, baring teeth, and snapping are warning signs for both the potential victim as well as the dog’s owner. When a dog exhibits these signs, the dog owner should take steps to keep people away from the dog by keeping the dog in a secure area such as a home or yard or on a leash when out for a walk. Children are most susceptible to dog attacks because they are small and vulnerable.
When someone gets bitten by the dog, the first thing to do is get proper medical attention because the risk of serious infection is particularly high when a dog’s bite breaks the skin of its victim. Next, get the dog owner’s information (name, telephone number, address and the name of the dog’s veterinarian so you can check to see if the animal is current on its vaccinations). Tell the owner what happened. Dog owners are always required to control their dogs but even more so when they know the animal has attacked someone or some other animal. Next, notify your local animal control agency and make a report. Often aggressive dogs have a history of such behavior and when it escalates to a certain point, the animal control officers are required to take steps to make sure the dog is confined and in some instances, have the dog put to down. This is always tragic because a dog’s aggressiveness is almost always the result of the way the owner raised the dog.
Remember, dog owners are 100% responsible for any damage caused by their pets. This means that in the case of a dog attack, the owner has to pay for the victim’s medical bills, income loss and the injury itself. If you were bitten by a dog, you should get prompt medical care and then find a capable dog bite attorney to represent and protect you. Mr. Nelson C. Barry III is a personal injury lawyer in San Francisco
Bay area who pursues dog attack cases very aggressively. Mr. Barry has represented many dog bite victims and has a 100% win record! Be aware that in state of
California
there is a limited period of time to claim losses for your injuries, so call as soon as possible for a free consultation. |

| The Ins and Outs of a Dog Bite Injury Claim |
| Posted By Law Office of Nelson C. Barry III |
 |
Someone who is going to make a claim after being attacked by a dog should seriously consider getting an experienced attorney on their side. It will not cost any up front money to hire an attorney because the attorney usually gets paid out of the settlement. Another plus is that while dog bite cases are usually straight forward (the owner of the dog is almost always 100% responsible for any injuries caused by his or her dog), there are many issues that might come up that need to be dealt with, such as:
1 What are the behavioral proclivities of the particular breed of dog that bit you?
2 Did the dog involved have a dangerous or vicious nature?
3 What were the dangerous capabilities of the dog at the time of the incident?
4 Was provocation a factor in causing the dog to bite?
5 Did the care and maintenance of the dog influence the attack?
6 Was the incident foreseeable?
7 If multiple dogs are involved, which one did the biting?
8 Did misconduct of the dog owner have an impact on the dog's behavior?
9 Is it advisable to reconstruct how the attack must have happened to refute inaccurate or biased witnesses?
10 Is it advisable to do a behavioral examination of the dog (before it is put down) to determine if it was dangerous by nature.
Being attacked by a dog is almost ALWAYS a scary and dramatic event. Victims are often shaken up so much that they can not think straight. Often their injuries are incredibly bad, even life threatening. It is not reasonable to assume that the victim can be cool, calm and collected at a time when important information needs to be gathered. However at the time of the attack or as soon thereafter as practical, the following needs to be obtained:
1. Name, address and telephone number of the dog owner.
2. Name of the dog, the breed, the gender, the age, whether it was neutered or spayed and confirmation of whether the dog's shots and vaccines are up to date.
3. The name of the dog owner's insurance company.
4. Name, address and telephone number of all witnesses.
Of course prompt medical attention is of paramount importance if the injury is serious and to reduce the risk of infection and other possible complications.
While all this is going on, it can be a very big relief to have an experienced attorney "handling" the legal side of matters to make sure that everything that is supposed to be done is being done. This frees up the vitcim and his or her family to concentrate on recovering both physically and emotionally.
