ABOUT US
Nelson C. Barry III is a San Francisco attorney specializing in representing claimants
in personal injury and wrongful death claims arising from vehicle accidents, medical negligence,
slip & falls, asbestos claims, burn cases and dog attacks.
Mr. Barry has successfully represented the interests of such individuals in trials,
mediations and arbitrations since 1979.
Mr. Barry is also himself an experienced mediator and arbitrator.
Affiliated with the American Arbitration Association (AAA) Center for Mediation and ADR Services Inc.,
he has mediated over 2,000 cases, achieving a settlement rate exceeding 90 percent.
In 1993, he received the AAA Distinguished Service Award for outstanding mediation skills.
Mr. Barry has also arbitrated over 50 cases as an active member of the AAA and ADR Services, Inc.
approved panel of arbitrators. He is also a former Panelist for the United States
District Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Program.
A published author on numerous aspects of mediation, Mr. Barry has spoken about ADR
before the Practicing Law Institute, Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters (CPCU),
University of San Francisco, San Francisco Legal Secretaries Association, insurance carriers
and other organizations. He also trains lawyers, insurance claims specialists
and other professionals in mediation and negotiation skills through AAA and
the Insurance Education Association. His firm formerly sponsored an annual conference on mediation strategy in 1989.
Prior to opening his law offices in 1992, Mr. Barry practiced for 13 years with
the San Francisco litigation firm of Bishop, Barry, Howe, Haney & Ryder,
where he tried numerous cases and headed the firm's Insurance Defense and General Litigation Groups.
Mr. Barry earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California at Berkeley (B.A., 1975)
and his law degree from Hastings College of the Law, University of California (J.D., 1978).
He is a member of the State Bar of California, Consumer Attorneys of California,
San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association, Bar Association of San Francisco.
He was born in San Francisco in 1953.
